This project took on a unique challenge—turning an old water cistern into a refined tasting lounge. The catch? The lounge had to remain completely secret—a moody, beautifully designed hideaway disguised as an ordinary cistern from the outside. We explored several concepts, and the winning idea was what we now call the “fence option.” We designed the space as a hidden garden wrapped in a stone wall—think of the old Spanish missions here in Texas. From the outside? Just a barn and a cistern. But inside, it’s an entirely different story—there’s a lounge hidden within the cistern, guest suites, an outdoor kitchen with a Texas-style BBQ smoker, a pool, fire pits, and more, all tucked away in plain sight.
